Burton Island State Park is one of Vermont’s most unique and beloved camping destinations—an island getaway right in the middle of Lake Champlain. Located at 2714 Hathaway Point Rd, St. Albans Town, VT 05478, the park is accessible only by boat or ferry, offering a peaceful and car-free environment that’s perfect for relaxing, exploring, and disconnecting.
Surrounded by crystal-clear waters and scenic views in every direction, Burton Island is a favorite among campers, kayakers, boaters, and nature lovers. With its tranquil setting, hiking and biking trails, shoreline campsites, and friendly marina, this island park delivers a one-of-a-kind Vermont experience you won’t soon forget.
Burton Island State Park covers 253 acres of forested land, open meadows, and picturesque shoreline on Lake Champlain. The island is car-free, making it ideal for quiet getaways and outdoor adventure. Visitors can explore the 3-mile shoreline, hike or bike on several island trails, swim at the beach, or paddle the calm waters around the island.
The park features 26 tent sites, 14 lean-tos, and 4 remote campsites, all reachable by walking trails. Campers enjoy access to restrooms, coin-operated showers, composting toilets, picnic areas, and a fully equipped marina with dock space, fuel, and a small camp store offering snacks, essentials, and firewood.
Ferry service to the island is available via the park’s boat, Island Runner, departing from Hathaway Point in St. Albans Bay. Personal kayaks, canoes, or motorboats are also welcome at the island’s docks.

Please note: The Island Runner ferry departs from this address to bring visitors to the island. No vehicles are allowed on Burton Island, and the island itself does not have a street address.
Burton Island State Park is seasonal, typically open from late May through early September. Ferry access, facilities, and campground operations all follow the summer schedule.
