Description

OVERVIEW

High in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, June Lake Campground is a gem nestled above the shoreline of June Lake (elevation ~ 7,600 ft) in the charming village of June Lake (community), CA. This site’s mix of mountain peaks, crystalline lake water, and forested campground offers a retreat from the everyday — whether you’re casting a line, wandering forest trails, or simply breathing the thin high-altitude air. With a short walk into town for dining or supplies, it blends wilderness access and convenience beautifully.

THE CAMPGROUND

  • 28 campsites (tents and small RVs) managed by U.S. Forest Service.
  • Located among mixed aspen and pine forest just above June Lake’s eastern shoreline — many sites have forest cover and mountain views.
  • Facilities include drinking water, flush toilets, and bear-proof food lockers at each site (due to active bear area).
  • Pets allowed (leash required) but site amenities are more rustic than full RV parks: no hookups.
  • Quiet hours: 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

THE LAKE, TRAILS & LOCAL ADVENTURE

At the heart of this destination is June Lake itself — glistening, surrounded by towering peaks, and rich in outdoor opportunity.

  • Fishing: The lake is stocked with trout (rainbow, golden / Alpers) and is popular among anglers.
  • Boating & paddling: Rentals and marina access are nearby, making it easy to get on the water.
  • Hiking: Trails head out into the surrounding mountains (including toward the Ansel Adams Wilderness) and offer alpine views, wildflowers in season, and quiet forest paths.
  • Village access: The campground is within walking distance of the town of June Lake — cafés, shops and convenience make it easier for families or less rugged visitors.
  • Wildlife & nature: Expect high-elevation forest fauna and the crisp, clean sense of being in a mountain retreat.

EVENING VIBES & FAMILY TRADITIONS

Picture: evenings after a day on the water or trail, the pines whisper overhead, stars begin to shine, a fire ring flickers, and the silhouette of peaks darkens in the twilight. Whether roasting marshmallows, telling stories, or simply listening to the quiet of mountain night air, June Lake Campground invites a slower pace and a sense of tradition.
For families this could become a repeated escape — whether memories of first fish caught, first kayaking glides, or simply the nightly ritual of gathering around a campfire under high mountain skies.

This campground hits a sweet spot for:

  • Families who want a genuine outdoors experience but with convenience (walkable town, maintained facilities)
