OVERVIEW

Set along the picturesque shores of Lake Champlain, Button Bay State Park is a beloved Vermont destination offering scenic lake views, family-friendly recreation, and peaceful camping. Located just west of Vergennes, the park features sweeping views of the Adirondack Mountains across the water and easy access to one of Vermont’s most iconic natural landscapes.

With lake access, open fields, and wooded trails, Button Bay is ideal for campers of all ages looking to enjoy swimming, paddling, hiking, or simply relaxing by the water.


THE CAMPGROUND

Button Bay State Park’s campground is designed with families and nature lovers in mind, offering a wide range of site types and amenities while maintaining a peaceful, natural setting.

Campground features include:

  • Tent and RV sites (some with electric hookups)
  • 13 lean-to shelters
  • 4 rental cabins with lake views
  • Flush toilets, coin-operated hot showers, and dump station
  • Picnic tables and fire rings at every site
  • Large, open grassy areas great for games and group camping
  • Pet-friendly (on leash in designated areas)

The park also features a large swimming pool with lifeguards, a rarity in state parks, making it especially attractive to families with young children.


OUTDOOR ADVENTURES & ACTIVITIES

With its lakeside setting, Button Bay offers campers easy access to a wide variety of outdoor activities, both on land and in the water.

Things to do in and around the park include:

  • Kayaking & canoeing on Lake Champlain (rentals available seasonally)

  • Hiking trails with views of Button Bay and the surrounding area
  • Fishing for bass, pike, and panfish from the shore or a boat
  • Wildlife watching – especially birds along the lake and wetlands

  • Visiting nearby Vergennes, Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area, or Kingsland Bay State Park
