Description

OVERVIEW

Spanning more than 16,000 acres in the heart of the Green Mountains, Coolidge State Forest offers a truly wild and scenic camping experience in central Vermont. With rolling ridges, deep woods, and miles of hiking trails, this forest is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature seekers alike.

Centered around the historic Coolidge State Park, the campground provides rustic accommodations with sweeping mountain views and easy access to the forest’s vast trail network — all while honoring the area's rich natural and cultural heritage.

THE CAMPGROUND

Located within Coolidge State Park, the campground offers both drive-in and lean-to campsites spread across two distinct loops: the mountain-side loop (with beautiful views) and the wooded loop (more private and shaded). It’s a favorite for those looking to disconnect and enjoy a more traditional Vermont camping experience.

Campground features include:

  • Tent and small RV sites (no hookups)
  • 26 lean-tos for weather-sheltered camping
  • Vault toilets and hand-pumped water
  • Picnic tables and fire rings at each site
  • Group camping area available
  • Pet-friendly (leashed pets welcome)

This is primitive camping at its best, with minimal development and a strong emphasis on nature. It’s especially ideal for hikers, backpackers, and families who appreciate quiet, scenic camping with plenty of room to roam.
